The difficulties of turning four

Pictures of Malaki's birthday will come later, but for now I have an early morning birthday story.

Thursday evening - Malaki and Korinthia were taking a nap, and Malaki's birthday was fast approaching. I still hadn't gotten stuff to make a cake, nor had I gotten him a gift. I knew what I wanted to get him, sort of, he had been playing some of those free trial computer games online and was getting very good at them. So I know I wanted something like that for him, after all we had just gotten rid of a ton of stuff, so I wanted something that wouldn't be a pain to pack in a month and a half when it is time to move again.
So I told Jereme I had to go birthday shopping, and I took Lillie with me. Once we got to the store she helped me pick out a preschool game for Malaki. It is a Disney game with three discs, one with Mickey, one with Winnie the Pooh, and one with someone else I don't know. I think it was Stanley and sharks or something like that... Anyhow, since he is four I wanted something that would teach him while he plays. This game is supposed to help him learn everything from Letters, counting 1 - 100, colors, opposites, shapes and much more... pretty much everything you learn in preschool is on these discs. We then picked out wrapping paper and stuff for his cake before heading home.

Friday Nap time - While the kids were all in their room I decided it was a good time to wrap Malaki's Present.

Friday night - Lillie had noticed the present first. After having been told the day before over and over that we were getting things for Malaki's birthday she knew what the present was for. She showed Malaki, who was having a hard time waiting for his birthday. As we put them to bed I reminded Malaki, "tomorrow is your birthday, You will get to open your present!"
"oooh" he said in his special way with his funny expression. I can't not describe it but can only say if you have seen him do it, you know what I am talking about.

6:30am this morning (Malaki's Birthday) - our door opens and Malaki peeks his head in. "Happy birthday Malaki" I say to him, I heard him get up since I was already wide awake. I have a cold and can't breathe very well....
"mom, I'm awake" he tells me.
"Ok, that's fine"
about 45 minutes later my door opens again, in he walks with a dvd. I assume it is a movie he wants to watch, as he often does this in the mornings, but I can only see the back of the dvd. "bring it here" I tell him. As he hands it to me I see it is the Stanly and Sharks (or whatever it is) "Malaki, did you open your present?"
"Yeah" he happily replies...
When I came out I found the discs (one in the dvd player and the other by it, the third is in my hand) I then had Malaki show me where the box and paper was, which he had thrown in the garbage.
After I had everything I sent him to his room, he has to learn not to get into things without asking, even if it is his birthday.
As I pondered how on earth he could have gotten it off of the top of the dvd shelf, still not sure but I think he must have climbed on the TV, I rewrapped his present and put it back.
Now he is asking if he can open it... to which we have decided he will now have to wait till after cake. However we are still planning to have a good time. He and Lillie will get to help me make the cake, so I am sure he won't feel his 4th birthday was ruined or anything....
Later I will post pictures of the birthday fun.
